Unbound: Jennifer Mathews ʼ07M (PhD)
This vice provost believes being ‘boundless’ is refusing to let anything stand in the way of ‘ever better.’
“‘Boundless’ to me is breaking down barriers and advancing our academic goals. It’s not putting limitations on what we can aspire to be as a university.”
Jennifer Mathews
Vice provost | Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness
Chief assessment officer
Office of the Provost
If we think of Boundless Possibility as a roadmap to 2030, Jennifer is among the people clearing the way forward, especially in education. Some of the biggest academic issues being tackled by Jennifer’s office include creating the conditions for our undergraduate students to continue their graduate education at Rochester and bolstering the infrastructure that ensures our programs keep meeting high academic standards. She also built the FUNDerdome framework.
Jennifer sees collaboration and engagement across the institution as a major facilitator of Rochester’s boundlessness. “The faculty, staff, students, and practitioners bring an infectious energy to everything they do,” she says. “It’s an exciting environment to work in.
“Another way I think about ‘boundless’ is never knowing what each day will bring—only that it will likely be something to be very proud of.”
